On Hiatus

... and brief wrap-up. That blue and brown linen stitch thing? Turned out to be a placemat. In my rush to get rid of it today I neglected to take a photo. I don't think you all missed that much. For the partially anonymous Hummingbird: I've edited the swap post; as you can see, the Nature Cotton has been taken but all of the other things are available. However, I'll be going away for a few weeks and won't be able to get at the computer or the yarn. Please leave me another comment if you're still interested and I'll be more than happy to work out a deal with you when I come home. And last but not least, this is a temporary sign-off. I'll be on a month-long trip and will be back in early July. Of course I'm taking my knitting -- I have yarn for four pair of socks all ready to go. I have one plain pair already on the needles, and have plans for a pair of Jaywalkers, a pair of Embossed Leaves socks, and the Child's First Socks from Knitting Vint

Limping into the 21st Century

A few days ago I finally made my way into the twentyfirst century and got a cell phone. And inevitably I felt the need to knit it something. Here is my interpretation of what a cell phone ought to have as a house. Stats: My own design, made up on the fly, with a short-row toe as the bottom and cables on all 4 sides. 2x2 ribbing gently keeps it inside. This isn't to provide it protection from anything more than getting scratched up as I carry it around... it certainly won't save it from a fall. I used some leftover Sockotta sock yarn and #1 dpns. If you'd like a more accurate recipe, I could probably write one up. It turned out looking more like a hot water bottle cover than I thought it would, but I guess that's okay. No, I haven't finished anything else that I should be... but I'm going to try to get a few things taken care of before I leave in a few days. (Yay!)
