Catch-Up

I have a feeling I'll be playing catch-up for a while. As I get used to my new job I think it will become easier, but that may be a while.

So I have worked for a week in my new job and I'm happy to be going back tomorrow. I'm getting to learn about interesting things as I write reports on patents. My co-workers seem pretty nice and I get to go home for lunch.

I have found some time to knit, amazingly... although most of it was this weekend.

I have been slowly working on my custom-fit gloves.

Trekking glove

I think it's important to make the process look as scary as possible and add all the extra dpns I can to stick out of the glove. I don't know why this project is going so slowly, but I'm just not excited about making those fingers. Maybe once it cools off a little....

And I am impatient and started another sock.

These are Anastasia socks, in Claudia Hand Paint Bearded Iris. It's shades of brown and purple, even if my camera cannot properly photograph royal purple to save its life.

This is such a great and easy pattern. I have been knitting through movies and soccer matches and it just flies along.

And to celebrate my new job (okay, even though I haven't been paid yet) I went to an enormous sale at my LYS Saturday morning. Everything I bought was 70% off (yes, Koigu at 70% off!) and it was awesome. Actually that many people in a yarn store was a little crazy. Ladies with armloads of Manos and Malabrigo. Dazed husbands. Wool fumes. You get the idea. Much fun was had by all.

I think I'd better turn in for another day at work. I'm glad I got to start with a long weekend!

Introducing Escargot

Escargot It was June 2010 and Kel, Danielle, and I were flying down the highway coming back to Alexandria from TNNA (the yarn industry trade show) in Columbus, Ohio. Danielle may or may not have been pushing the speed limit just a smidgen, and Kel may or may not have been clinging to the Mini's door in abject terror. Liquorice Allsorts Socks

New socks yay! These have been my 'boring purse knitting' for a while and they are finally done! I had to re-knit the first sock, which was a major bummer, but serves me right for knitting all the way to the tip of the toe before trying it on. The yarn is Regia in one of the Kaffe Fassett designed stripe patterns. These are just basic 3x1 rib socks, 72 sts around, on US#1s. The colors reminded me of liquorice allsorts (not that allsorts have THAT much blue in them, but you get the idea) hence the name. I love the mismatched stripes Now to find my next easy socks to carry around!

My 2012

In looking ahead to the new year, I've also been looking back a little. I was thinking about all the things I did for the first time (or first time in a very  long time) in 2012. Let's be honest, most of them are pretty insignificant, but that's okay. Firsts in 2012: Ran a mile (for the first time in over 10 years!)  Drove most of the way across the country (towing a trailer) Ate an oyster (raw!) Had a helicopter flying lesson That last one was on New Year's Eve and I am still pretty excited about it. As part of family Christmas, my sister-in-law offered all the family members a very brief flying lesson in a Robinson R22 - a very small helicopter. I was a little nervous but I know that she is very experienced and very safe.
