Sock time

The closets are full of leftover metal hangers from the dry-cleaners. Of course in my copious spare time I had to finally sit down and make a pair of sock blockers.

Very easy! Can you imagine a closet full of these? All the socks hanging there, waiting? I'm almost tempted to do it, although I do have that nice box to keep socks in.

I've also been working on the Pomatomus socks.

It finally seems like I'm getting somewhere, especially after I ripped out the first one after finishing it, down to weaving in the ends and everything. But there are still problems.

This is what the toe looks like if you follow the pattern. Not cool, especially for my wide feet. And to add insult to injury, it's too short. So I'll be ripping it out and re-doing it.

Now, do I bring these and finish them while I sit in line and wait for the iPhone tomorrow? Or should I just take a book instead? I'm afraid the Bayerische socks would be too involved, and I'm not sure I want to start an entirely new project at this point. It doesn't help that I have to be ready to run home and jump on a plane as soon as we (hopefully) are able to get one of the phones. (It's not for me, I'm sitting in line as a proxy for somebody who actually has a Real Job. Gosh, wish I had one of those....)

The kitchen is a huge mess... I'll show you why at a later time, but now I have to go fight the stacks of dirty stuff.

Congrats on Graduating! Good Job! So sad you won't be in knitting group, but wish you well in finding another group in Virginia who loves to knit! I'm so glad to see your posts! You are so talented and I aspire to be as good as you are. I also wish you good luck in waiting for the IPhone. I would love to have it in the same size as my Ipod, 80GB. Then it would be worth it to buy it. Hopefully the person you're buying it for loves it!

Also, I've tried to make the sock blockers from hangers, but they were too small. Hrm.

Escargot It was June 2010 and Kel, Danielle, and I were flying down the highway coming back to Alexandria from TNNA (the yarn industry trade show) in Columbus, Ohio. Liquorice Allsorts Socks

New socks yay! These have been my 'boring purse knitting' for a while and they are finally done! I had to re-knit the first sock, which was a major bummer, but serves me right for knitting all the way to the tip of the toe before trying it on. The yarn is Regia in one of the Kaffe Fassett designed stripe patterns. These are just basic 3x1 rib socks, 72 sts around, on US#1s. The colors reminded me of liquorice allsorts (not that allsorts have THAT much blue in them, but you get the idea) hence the name. I love the mismatched stripes Now to find my next easy socks to carry around!

My 2012

In looking ahead to the new year, I've also been looking back a little. I was thinking about all the things I did for the first time (or first time in a very  long time) in 2012. Let's be honest, most of them are pretty insignificant, but that's okay. Firsts in 2012: Ran a mile (for the first time in over 10 years!)  Drove most of the way across the country (towing a trailer) Ate an oyster (raw!) Had a helicopter flying lesson That last one was on New Year's Eve and I am still pretty excited about it. As part of family Christmas, my sister-in-law offered all the family members a very brief flying lesson in a Robinson R22 - a very small helicopter. I was a little nervous but I know that she is very experienced and very safe.
