Aren't I Supposed to be Writing or Something?

Well, this is arguably writing. So there. And it's even on my to-do list, which means blogging is an approved activity!

First of all, it's good to know that I'm by no means the only one who hates knitting with cotton. Unfortunately I think this is going to make it more difficult to get rid of the 8 hanks of Araucania Nature Cotton that I have sitting around....

Thanks for your compliments on my Picovoli. I am enjoying wearing it [unlike some famous knitters out there, I wear my sweaters ;)].

And my Mom can knit and crochet; my guess is that if she used the yarn it would probably be for knitting, though. UPS tracking tells me the package was delivered yesterday... I hope to hear from her soon!

And now, here's what I've been up to. I've finally conquered the Parade sock, and having finished one, have started the second. I want to get these over with so I can knit something different!

I've also been working on my Gossamer Ruffle Shawl. This is what one ball of Gossamer gets me to:

Since the ruffle is the very last part, it's going to look sad and lumpy until the very end. But I have to get this off the needles, too, so I can knit a felted bag. Why do all the patterns I want to knit right now all take the same needle size?

Question: I'll be gone on a 4 or 5 week trip with cross-country plane flights and lots of in-car time. How much sock yarn do you think I should take?

Ooo, nice sock! How is Parade to work with?

I'd take either all the sock yarn, or most of it. Socks go fast, especially if there's nothing else to do in a car, hotel room, or even while hanging out with people in the evenings. It won't take much room, and you can even put the socks to good use as soon as they're done.

Escargot It was June 2010 and Kel, Danielle, and I were flying down the highway coming back to Alexandria from TNNA (the yarn industry trade show) in Columbus, Ohio. My 2012

In looking ahead to the new year, I've also been looking back a little. I was thinking about all the things I did for the first time (or first time in a very  long time) in 2012. Let's be honest, most of them are pretty insignificant, but that's okay. Firsts in 2012: Ran a mile (for the first time in over 10 years!)  Drove most of the way across the country (towing a trailer) Ate an oyster (raw!) Had a helicopter flying lesson That last one was on New Year's Eve and I am still pretty excited about it. As part of family Christmas, my sister-in-law offered all the family members a very brief flying lesson in a Robinson R22 - a very small helicopter. I was a little nervous but I know that she is very experienced and very safe. Liquorice Allsorts Socks

New socks yay! These have been my 'boring purse knitting' for a while and they are finally done! I had to re-knit the first sock, which was a major bummer, but serves me right for knitting all the way to the tip of the toe before trying it on. The yarn is Regia in one of the Kaffe Fassett designed stripe patterns. These are just basic 3x1 rib socks, 72 sts around, on US#1s. The colors reminded me of liquorice allsorts (not that allsorts have THAT much blue in them, but you get the idea) hence the name. I love the mismatched stripes Now to find my next easy socks to carry around!
